On November 6, 2012, the voters of Colorado voted in favor of amendment 64, the legalization of marijuana that went into effect in January 2014. Five years later, retail recreational marijuana is part of the Colorado landscape and Grand County is no exception. While it’s now legal to purchase and consume marijuana if you’re just visiting or new to the area we’ve outlined a few things you should know, including where to buy in the area.

Legal Requirements.
Regardless of the state, you reside in, anyone over the age of 21 with a valid government-issued ID can purchase up to 28 grams of marijuana products in a single transaction. Some shops may opt to limit your transaction to once a day due to language interpretation within the written law
Possession of marijuana on federal land is punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of $1,000 on the first offense, along with a 15-day mandatory sentence that can be extended to two years in prison for a second offense. After that, perpetrators can receive a 90-day to a three-year prison term, and.

The current Colorado law does not allow for the open consumption of marijuana and is therefore at the discretion of individual law enforcement to uphold it. Citations and fines can be imposed on those who light up in public areas. And speaking of fines, while it is legal to possess and consume marijuana in the state of Colorado, doing so within federal lands such as Rocky Mountain National Park is prohibited and can result in a year of jail time and $1,000 fine for first offenses. Repeat offenders can expect up to 3 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

So where can you buy it? Below is a list of local dispensaries and information directly from their webpages
