POSITION SUMMARY:

The Base Patrol Coordinator (BPC) assists the Base Patrol Supervisor (BPS) in achieving objectives of supervising the Base Patrol Room and coordinating first aid care with assisting patrollers.  Also, the BPC coordinates with the clinic personnel in triaging patients, assists them in medical emergencies and is the coordinator between Base Patrol, patrol dispatcher and the medical clinic in emergency situations.  The BPC also has responsibility for training of new professional and volunteer patrollers, junior patrollers and auxiliary patrollers in all patrol room procedures.  The BPC protects patient confidentiality and ensures compliance with Winter Park Resort policies and procedures. He / She will follow all Winter Park policies and procedures, all applicable laws (federal, state, and local), and all health and sanitation codes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Evaluate injuries and provide emergency care.
  • Triage the ill and injured for admission to base area clinic
  • Care and transportation of injured persons.
  • Notify Director and Risk Manager of incidents meeting pre-set criteria, including critical incidents and worker’s comp
  • Complete incident reports
  • Prepare equipment for re-use & send up the hill
  • Check and fill oxygen equipment
  • Make up toboggan rolls.
  • Check-out pagers to group sponsors
  • Page family and guardians & keep system updated.
  • Clean Patrol Room and snow removal as needed
  • Restock cabinets and send needed supplies up to PHQ’s
  • Review incident reports & do follow ups with clinic.
  • Take morning meeting notes and share previous information
  • Operate base snowmobile, as needed.
  • Maintain courtesy vehicle readiness and service as needed.
  • Transport helicopter crew and patients as required

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Respond to emergencies in designated base facilities and parking lots at Winter Park and Mary Jane, and other locations that can be reached by snowmobile or courtesy vehicles
  • Deliver and pick-up cleaning from Laundry
  • Label and document equipment sent to Denver via ambulance/helicopter.
  • Check drug and first aid supply weekly & generate orders as needed.
  • Issue and document supplies requested by other departments.
  • Maintain safety around Patrol room; coordinate with maintenance people, when necessary including prompt bio-hazard clean-up.
  • Notify children’s ski school when students are injured
  • Label and return rental and guest equipment left behind.
  • Provide training for Patrol personnel on specialized equipment or procedures.
  • Supervise care of patients and arrange transportation according to their needs.
  • Supervise Junior Ski Patrollers and Auxiliary Ski Patrollers within the confines of the Patrol Room.
  • Maintain a friendly, congenial and helpful attitude while effectively dealing with the guests and other employees.
  • Maintain GHS manual and oversee GHS training of new patrollers
  • Maintain resource library including protocol manuals
  • Be familiar with Resort resources to enable appropriate guest service.
  • Correct and/or report unsafe conditions or areas of concern in the work area or elsewhere at the resort
  • Keep work area clean and limit visitors in triage and waiting areas
  • Perform other duties as instructed by Director

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED (General Education Development – high school equivalency).

Experience:

  • Experience in emergency care of patients desirable
  • Clinical or emergency room experience desirable
  • Senior Patroller level experience desirable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May be required to work out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude etc…
  • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be high. Often lifting a weight of 60 pounds throughout the day is common.
  • Additional strenuous physical activity pulling loaded toboggans to the patrol room, walking on uneven, challenging terrain
  • Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting. Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude.  Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting.  Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing and eye protection to be worn.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

WAGE:

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of Winter Park Resorts’ hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Winter Park Resorts’ total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.
