POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lift Operations Supervisor is responsible for the staffing, operation, and record keeping, with an emphasis on safety and guest service, within a section of up to fourteen aerial and surface lifts within the Lift Department. This includes hiring, placement, training, evaluation, discipline, and termination of staff within his/her section. They will ensure that lifts are operated in accordance with Lift Department, Winter Park Resort, Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board, ANSI B-77.1, United States Forest Service, and insurance rules and regulations. The Lift Operations Supervisor will verify consistent revenue collection and ticket security by overseeing lift ticket scanning. They will consistently follow all Winter Park policies and procedures, all applicable laws (federal, state, and local), and all health and sanitation codes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Watch for and manage hazards and potential hazards involving passengers, employees, and machinery. Take reasonable action to prevent accidents.
- Report and/or correct unsafe conditions which may affect guest or employee safety as soon as possible.
- In the event of an emergency, follow Winter Park Resort/ Lift Department Policies and Procedures to take appropriate action.
- Conduct and document weekday safety morning meetings with staff to increase safety awareness.
- Train lift employees in guest relations in order to create and maintain a friendly, congenial and helpful atmosphere in which to serve our guests while providing them assistance, information and/or directions.
- Train lift employees in handling first line conflicts and grievances with guests as well as conflict resolution within a crew.
- Train lift employees in the lift mechanical and operational policies and procedures in accordance with all applicable sections of the current Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board and ANSI B-77.1 rules and regulations.
- Train employees in good safety practices and awareness in the workplace.
- Accurately document initial and on-going training of lift operations employees.
- Train lift employees in ticket scanning duties to guarantee revenue collection and ticket security.
- Handle first line conflicts and grievances with guests as well as conflict resolution
- Create and maintain a positive learning and working atmosphere that encourages teamwork, cooperation, and communication as well as questions, comments and suggestions.
- Follow up at each lift daily to assure that lift employees are following good safety practices and guest relations, and that applicable rules and regulations, and policies and procedures are being carried out.
- Communicate daily with Lift Operations Manager for schedule changes, memos, policy changes, special events, guest comments, and general operations information.
- Communicate daily with Crew Leaders and Crew Members to report schedule changes, memos, policy changes, special events, guest comments, progress of each crew member.
- Review lift logs and incident reports daily for completeness and accuracy.
- Inspect each lift and control cabin daily paying particular attention to safety, housekeeping, ropes, barriers, ramps, corrals, litter, tool storage, snow removal, signs, flagging, bulletin boards, ski tip clearance, ample supplies, training manuals, and emergency procedures.
- Take appropriate action to ensure that lift operations personnel are in a clean authorized uniform and have a name tag on. Personal appearance guidelines must be followed.
- Prepare work schedules to ensure that all positions are filled daily and stay within manpower and budget requirements.
- Communicate with Lift Maintenance Supervisor weekly and assist with daily pre-op inspection when maintenance is short-staffed.
- Assist lift mechanics by training Crew Leaders to assist with daily pre-op inspection when maintenance is short-staffed.
Other Duties:
- Coordinate weekly auxiliary run with Crew Leader and lift mechanic.
- Keep lift tools in working order.
- Schedule and conduct interviews as needed.
- Ensure that new and returning Crew Members/Leads complete the Human Resources paperwork in a timely fashion. Schedule orientation and training sessions for employees as needed.
- Give timely positive feedback when deserved and timely constructive discipline when required to correct problems early and document these actions.
- Administer required checklists and evaluations in a timely fashion.
- Coordinate activities with all departments, especially slope, ski school, comp. center and ski patrol for a smooth and efficient operation.
- Maintain a friendly, congenial and helpful attitude towards other departments.
- Keep lines of communication open with all employees.
- Be a Winter Park Resort guest relations representative both on and off the job. Project a desirable image that reflects favorably upon you, this position, and the ski area.
- Maintain good housekeeping in work area and pick up trash on resort area.
- Assist with traffic control in the crowded areas of the mountains as needed.
- Plan, schedule and implement lift employee activities.
- Perform other duties as directed by Lift Operations Manager.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- High School diploma or GED
Experience:
- Minimum one full season lift operation experience and/or supervisory experience or demonstrated ability.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Be able to ski/ride around the entire mountain in order to move quickly from lift to lift.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer functionality required.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License and clean motor vehicle record desirable.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be in good physical condition.
- Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergencies, as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- The primary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc…
- The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be high. Often lifting a weight of 50 pounds throughout the day is common.
- Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment.
- Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
- Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
- Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.

WAGE:
The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of Winter Park Resorts’ hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Winter Park Resorts’ total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.
