Never Summer Mountain Products is seeking energetic, outdoor-minded, and outgoing folks who are driven toward our goal of providing a high quality shopping experience for our customers and the community. The ideal candidate will possess previous leadership experience in a retail environment, excellent written and verbal communication skills, an understanding and passion for the outdoor culture and lifestyle, and an abnormally high level of excitement for getting folks the gear they need to get out and enjoy the outdoors.


Minimum Job Qualifications

o Strong customer service and sales skills.

o Previous retail or related customer service experience – preferred

o Outdoor product use/knowledge.

o Accuracy with money handling and Point of Sale use.

o Excellent organizational skills.

o Accuracy and attention to detail a must.

o Effective communication skills.

o Self-motivated.

o Ability to keep a positive attitude at work and be a team player.

o Intermediate/Advanced MS Excel knowledge a bonus.


Essential Job Functions

Customer Service and Sales

o Greet all customers in a friendly manner as they enter the store.

o Make use of the tools and training available to you to develop skill in sales and service, resulting in meaningful customer relationships and increased sales.

o Move around and assist customers throughout the store, address customer requests.

o Determine the needs of each person that enters the store and provide appropriate service.

o Give accurate product information for all inquiries.

o Handle product returns in a professional and courteous manner while ensuring the return meets our return policy requirements. Inform customers of items we cannot take returns on before they leave the store with it.

o Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude at all times, be a team player.

o Apply the above to all phone inquiries.

Merchandising and Maintenance

o Check stock daily and restock when necessary to ensure that all products are available for customers; if stock is not currently available offer to put their item on a wish list and to call them when stock arrives.

o Restock items that you sell

o Keep T-Shirt area looking neat and orderly.

o Steam all hanging merchandise.

o Assist in displaying all featured merchandise appropriately in each section.

o Assist with creating fun and attractive window displays to help drive sales.

o Dress in a manner that is comfortable to you while maintaining the store image.

o Help out to keep a clean and well-organized back-stock area.

o Vacuum, sweep floors, and empty trash as required.

o Clean and evaluate all rental returns as they come in and help to keep the back room tidy.

Area Information

o We consider ourselves to be an alternate visitor center to the Grand Lake area and pride ourselves on giving accurate information on trails, activity suggestions, area dining, and wildlife viewing and safety information.

o Use your position as an opportunity to get out and enjoy the National Park and National Forests right in your backyard as much as possible. Take advantage of all the perks of living in this small mountain community!

o Educate yourself on area information and trail conditions and be ready to make recommendations to customers as necessary.

o Be actively involved within the community on appropriate issues if you so desire.


o Report to work on time or notify in advance if absent or late.

o Operating the POS; it should be each employee’s goal to use the system without error and to be consistently accurate in money handling.

o Understand and adhere to proper opening and closing procedures.

o Use correct procedures for processing phone orders, watersports demos, special orders, and rentals.

o Practice security measures that help to prevent theft; understand the procedures for handling shoplifters.

o Practice safety consciousness at all times.

Mentoring, Training and Employee Development

o Participate in product demos/clinics as possible.

o Participate in the training of fellow employees, including ongoing product knowledge, service, and environmental training.

o Be proactive in your ongoing education regarding the company and area info, get out on trails, stay up-to-date on new and current products, and the outdoor retail industry.

o Take advantage of additional training opportunities that are offered.


Physical Requirements

o Continually able to stand/walk for extended periods of time, necessary to provide sales floor coverage related to customer service and loss prevention.

o Continually able to reach overhead, bend, squat, kneel, and carry product, necessary for customer service, inventory re-stock, and store merchandising.

o Continually able to walk up and down staircase, carrying boxes, product, and other necessary store related items.

o Ability and willingness to regularly perform store maintenance items: sweep, vacuum, empty trash, clean.

o Ability to safely lift boxes up to 45 lbs.

o Comfortable climbing ladders.



o The store is open 7 days per week. Number of scheduled hours per week varies. Must be flexible to work a possibility of one weekend day, one opening shift, and one closing shift throughout the week.
