Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Slope Maintenance Manager is responsible for all aspects of Snow Making, Grooming, and Winter/Summer Trail Maintenance including hiring and oversight of staff, maintenance, and upkeep of equipment, managing departments within established budget guidelines. This position is hands on working side by side the crew in the field while providing training, direction, and leadership. The Slope Maintenance Manager works closely with the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor and Ski Patrol Director to deliver excellent snow surface experience for our guests.


• Manage daily snowmaking, grooming, and trail maintenance operations.

• Interview and hire staff in the HRIS system, submitting required paperwork to HR in a timely manner.

• Responsible for executing and documenting training with all staff and providing weekly work schedules and daily work lists to crew in a timely manner.

• Supervise, monitor and verify the activity and work completed by staff.

• Maintain a culture of safety conducting and documenting daily safety topics.

• Works with and provides crew direction based on nightly plan as dictated by Mountain Operations Director including placement of snow guns, regularly checking snow guns and digging out and re-directing as necessary, fluffing and moving hose, and ensuring pumps and compressors are functioning normally and communicate with Mountain Director at the end of every shift.

• Perform routine maintenance on snow guns, cleaning nozzles, de-icing guns and hoses.

• Track and log water usage at beginning and end of shift (gallons per minute).

• Operate snowmobile/UTV/ATV per company policy including towing equipment on steep, icy slopes maintain appropriate speeds and angles in relation to slope.

• Responsible for trail grooming according to map set by Direction and establishing an operator schedule to accomplish required tasks.

• Communicates any damage sustained to snowcats, snowmobiles, UTV/ATV, or any other equipment during shift immediately to Director.

• Ensures that safety protocols are followed including PPE, confined space, and other operational procedures.

• Responsible for payroll for staff including fixing missed punches, ensuring proper use of time clock, timecard approvals, time off requests, and other payroll related items.

• Responsible for proper use of all mountain operations vehicles, equipment, and tools and ensuring documented training of all is completed with all staff and reports any damage or malfunction immediately to Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor.

• Completes daily operational snowmaking, grooming and trail maintenance logs.

• Responsible for oversight of downhill and cross-country bike trails. Assists with planning and execution of new trail building according to master plan.

o Oversight of water run off/ natural spring diversion for trails and lift terminals.

o Responsible for Snowmaking repairs with machine/hand work and/or oversight of subcontractors.

o Assist with oversight of Fuels and Fire reduction. Mowing grass on runs using tractor, fixing water bars, maintaining erosion control, and weed control.

• Terrain Parks – assist with park set up and feature design, conduct and document daily terrain park checks including feature maintenance, fencing, maintaining appropriate signage and gated entrances.

• Vehicle Maintenance and Shop – assist with vehicle maintenance as needed and maintain shop organization and cleanliness.


• Act as a positive, professional role model, adhering to the company’s hospitality standards.

• Maintain an exceptional level of guest service in all interaction with guests, fellow employees, and management.

• Actively participates in company functions and employee recognition programs.

• Assist and support other departments for races, events and operations on high volume days.

• All other duties as assigned.

· Must be at least 21 years of age.

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Minimum 3 years’ experience with snow making and grooming required.

· Minimum 3 years’ experience in leadership role.

· Minimum 5 years’ experience operating snowmobiles and snow cats.

· Valid driver’s license.


• Work overnight shifts 4-5 months per year during the winter.

• Ability to work at night in cold temperatures performing physically strenuous tasks.

• Must be able to lift up to 60lbs.

• Ability to perform strenuous exercise at 8000-10,000 feet in all weather conditions.

• Stand, walk, hike, for duration of 10+ hour shift.

• Reaching, Bending, Sitting, Standing, Carrying, Lifting, Reaching, Kneeling, Squatting.

• Verbal and auditory abilities necessary for communication with others.

Housing is available on a limited basis for $500-$900/month (depending on the season, location, private or shared room, and unit type). Rent is not included as part of the compensation package and is taken directly out of paychecks. A $325 security deposit and $75 non-refundable administration fee is required upon arrival, with a lease for the term of employment.

Having a car is recommended but not required; limited transportation is provided from all housing locations to Granby Ranch.
