The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a retail environment, excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrate a deep understanding and passion for the outdoor culture and lifestyle, and a high level of excitement for getting folks the gear they need to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

Minimum Job Qualifications

o Strong customer service and sales skills.

o Previous retail or related customer service experience – preferred

o Outdoor product use/knowledge.

o Accuracy with money handling and Point of Sale use is a must.

o Accuracy and attention to detail is required.

o Effective communication skills.

o Self-motivated.

o Ability to keep a positive attitude and be a team player.

Essential Job Functions

Customer Service and Sales

o Greet all customers in a friendly manner as they enter the store.

o Make use of the tools and training available to you to develop skill in sales and service, resulting in meaningful customer relationships and increased sales.

o Move around and assist customers throughout the store, address customer requests, watch for suspicious activity.

o Determine the needs of each person that enters the store and provide appropriate service.

o Give accurate product information for all inquiries.

o Maintain a positive and cheerful demeanor at all times, be a team player.

Merchandising and Maintenance

o Check stock daily and restock when necessary to ensure that all products are available for customers.

o Keep the store looking neat and orderly.

o Assist in displaying all featured merchandise appropriately in each section.

o Dress in a manner that is comfortable to you while maintaining the store image.

o Help out to keep a clean and well-organized front-of-house and back-stock area.

Area Information

o We consider ourselves to be an alternate visitor center to the Grand Lake area and pride ourselves on giving accurate information on trails, activity suggestions, area dining, and wildlife viewing and safety information.

o Use your position as an opportunity to get out and enjoy the National Park and National Forests right in your backyard as much as possible. Take advantage of all the perks of living in this small mountain community!

o Educate yourself on area information and trail conditions and be ready to make recommendations to customers as necessary.

Operations

o Report to work on time or notify in advance if absent or late.

o Operate the POS; it should be each employee’s top goal to use the system without error and to be consistently accurate in money handling.

o Understand and follow proper opening and closing procedures.

o Practice security measures that help prevent theft; understand how to handle shoplifters.

Mentoring, Training and Employee Development

o Participate in as many product demos/clinics as possible.

o Be proactive in your ongoing education regarding the company and area info, get out on trails, stay up-to-date on new and current products, and the outdoor retail industry.

o Take advantage of additional training opportunities that are offered.

Physical Requirements

o Continually able to stand/walk for extended periods of time, necessary to provide sales floor coverage related to customer service and loss prevention.

o Continually able to reach overhead, bend, squat, kneel, and carry product, necessary for customer service, inventory re-stock, and store merchandising.

o Continually able to walk up and down staircase, carrying boxes, product, and other necessary store related items.

o Ability and willingness to regularly perform store maintenance items: sweep, vacuum, empty trash, clean.

o Ability to safely lift boxes up to 55 lbs.

o Comfortable climbing ladders.

Schedule

o The store is open 7 days per week. Number of scheduled hours per week varies. Must be flexible to work a possibility of one weekend day, one opening shift, and one closing shift throughout the week.
