Job Description
Location: Fraser, Colorado (on-site at KFFR Studios)
Type: Part-Time (~20 Hours/Week).
Reports to: Executive Director
About KFFR
KFFR 88.3FM is Grand County’s nonprofit, community-powered radio station. With over 50 volunteer DJs and a mission to unite the community through music, local voices, news, and culture, KFFR is a hub for creativity and civic engagement. We host live music, broadcast public affairs, cover community events, and connect listeners across the Fraser Valley and beyond.
Position Overview
The Assistant Studio Manager plays a key role in ensuring that KFFR runs smoothly day-to-day while also helping the station grow through community outreach and marketing. This is a people-facing position that requires excellent organizational skills, comfort with technology, and the ability to support DJs, staff, and visitors. The role blends operations support, marketing and communications coordination, and light production tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Office Management
- Oversee and maintain the studio space; greet visitors and provide short tours.
- Ensure the station is presentable (cleaning common areas as needed).
- Manage staff calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate internal communications.
- Answer phones, respond to community questions, and manage incoming email.
- Support DJs: troubleshoot basic technical issues, help with scheduling/substitute coverage, and onboard/train new DJs.
- Maintain station supplies and merchandise for events and visitors.
Event & Volunteer Support
- Assist in preparing for in-studio and off-site events (set up tables, chairs, popcorn machine, beverages, etc.).
- Travel to remote events when needed; help with setup and takedown of live broadcasts.
- Collaborate with the Events Coordinator, Underwriting Manager, and Director on logistics.
Marketing & Communications
- Work with the remote marketing team to create and schedule social media posts.
- Post photos, videos, and updates to Meta Business (Facebook & Instagram).
- Assist with website/WordPress updates and event promotions.
- Help create printed materials, graphics, and flyers (Canva, etc.).
- Coordinate donor communications and help manage the donor relationship management system.
- Managing newsletter development, creation, and development.
Production Support
- Edit and organize audio recordings for weekly production.
- Ensure content is properly labeled, posted, and promoted.
- Work with the production team to keep audio archives and event recordings up to date.
Systems & Project Management
- Manage digital systems including Google Drive, iCloud, and Trello.
- Track and update projects with remote and in-house team members.
- Keep internal files, forms, and organizational tools current and accessible.
Physical & Technical Support
- Move and lift items up to 30 lbs, set up equipment, climb ladders, bend, and walk stairs as needed.
- Use tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, drills, and basic AV equipment.
- Operate station lights, sound system, and studio gear as needed.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Experience with Apple computers and iCloud.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Chat, Drive).
- Familiarity with Trello or similar project management systems.
- Social media experience (Meta Business Suite, scheduling, tagging, engaging).
- Canva or graphic design basics.
- WordPress or website editing.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic tech issues.
- Comfortable working with diverse groups of people (staff, volunteers, community partners).
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in community radio, nonprofit work, or local media is a plus.
Compensation & Schedule
- Pay: Hourly, commensurate with experience.
- Schedule: 20 hours per week; must be available some evenings/weekends for events and live broadcasts. Typical schedule will be Tuesdays (~2 hours), Wednesdays and Thursdays (~16 hours), 2 hours (event support when needed).
