Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing custodial and minor maintenance repair duties; keeping County buildings and their surrounding properties in a clean and orderly condition; tending to systems; and performing minor building maintenance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
ï‚· Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and vacuums hallways, stairs and office space.
ï‚· Mows and rakes lawn, trims shrubbery, edges sidewalks, cultivates flowers, weeds, waters and fertilizes lawns and flowers.
ï‚· Locks and unlocks the building and offices within the building according to scheduled business hours; turns lights on or off as required.
ï‚· Cleans bathrooms and replaces toiletries as required, washes walls and windows, dusts woodwork.
ï‚· Empties office and department trash and garbage containers.
ï‚· Picks up, sorts and delivers mail to offices in the building.
ï‚· Performs routine and minor plumbing, electrical and mechanical repairs for equipment and facilities.
ï‚· Cleans debris from sidewalks.
ï‚· Shovels, plows and removes snow from sidewalks, parking lot and streets around property; spreads de-icer.
ï‚· Paints building interior and exterior.
ï‚· Operates, services and performs minor maintenance on tools and equipment such as snow blowers, vacuum machines, service truck, skid steer front-end loader, mowers and weed eaters.
ï‚· Installs and maintains seasonal and other signs placed on property.
ï‚· Assembles and repairs furniture and bookcases.
ï‚· Assists in maintenance of fairgrounds.
ï‚· Prunes trees and bushes; hauls brush to disposal area.
ï‚· Drains and prepares lawn sprinkling system for winter; opens for operation in spring.
ï‚· Orders cleaning and other supplies and maintains adequate inventory.
ï‚· Monitors and regulates systems providing heat, cool air and hot water.
ï‚· Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
ï‚· Performs other related job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or general education diploma (GED); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications:
Possession of a valid, State of Colorado driver’s license. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Must be able to pass background check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
ï‚· Skill and experience in custodial services, power tool and small equipment operation, lawn maintenance, tree trimming, woodworking, painting and small truck driving.
ï‚· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
ï‚· Ability to write routine time reports.
ï‚· Ability to speak effectively with employees of organization.
ï‚· Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
ï‚· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out duties and instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
ï‚· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public, supervisors and other County officials.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, this position also requires the ability to use hands to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms; walk, climb, balance, operate equipment, and talk and hear; stand; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell; use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and to adjust focus;
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; paint and other fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock.
