Job Title:              Director of Transportation
Reports to:           COO/Finance/HR
Annual Salary:    $57,630 – $62,355
Work year:           12 months

Job Summary:
Join our staff as the Director of Transportation and lead a team of highly dedicated school bus drivers and mechanics. We are looking for a dedicated director of transportation who is a multi-tasker with excellent communication skills, professional, polite and attentive while also being accurate.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a current Colorado Driver License.
  • Qualifies or holds a CDE bus license and physical condition to meet driver license requirements.
  • Excellent oral and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to make sound judgements related to safety of children and mechanical condition of vehicles.

Essential Functions:

  • Planning and implementing a safe, efficient, and cost effective transportation system.
  • Advise and coordinate transportation schedules with the COO/Finance/HR.
  • Supervise the completion of all local, state and federal reports, including budget reports and safety inspections.
  • Supervise and assist in the inspections of all district vehicles according to local, state and federal requirements.
  • Implement preventative maintenance program and maintain vehicles in proper working condition.
  • Order parts, equipment and other supplies per school policy.
  • Prepare an annual and long-range budget with the COO/Finance/HR and Superintendent.
  • Interview and recommend, along with COO/Finance/HR, to the Superintendent all new transportation employees.
  • Supervise and evaluate all regular and substitute transportation employees.
  • Provide required training on safety, laws, emergency situations and student supervision.
  • Be familiar and implement all state, federal and local regulations governing student transportation.
  • Develop and maintain a system for keeping accurate records covering all phases of the transportation department.
  • Investigate and file all required reports on school transportation accidents.
  • Supervise the scheduling of all school transportation requests.
  • Oversee the approval of all school personnel to drive school vehicles through appropriate license and forms.
  • Act as one of the primary persons responsible for recommending the cancellation or postponement of transportation for school related functions and activities due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Use professional discretion related to transportation and use strict confidentiality practices.
  • Capable of driving a school bus and possess the driving abilities and skills necessary to operate the vehicle in a safe manner.
  • When necessary, drive school bus routes and school activity trips.
  • Ability to meet public in a cordial and helpful manner both in person and by telephone.
  • Ability to cooperate with co-workers and public
  • Ability to recognize when and when not to be a decision maker
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.
