    Pay range: $54,126.26- $72,741.16 annual (hiring rate DOQE)

    Hiring Incentive:  $5,000.00 ($2500 paid after 6 months in position, $2500 paid after 2 years in position).

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for administering medical care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital settings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Adheres to the Mission, Vision, and Values of Grand County Emergency Medical Services.
  • Treats all persons encountered in the line of duty with respect, dignity, and empathy.
  • Arrives at scheduled shifts fit for duty, prepared, well-rested, and in required uniform.
  • Administers prescribed pre-hospital medical care, treatment, and skills at the EMT (EMT or EMT-IV) level as defined by GCEMS protocols.
  • Participates in internal and external continuing education, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Responds to assigned incidents and calls from the emergency medical dispatcher, and maintains continuous communications contact throughout the shift.
  • Checks ambulances and/or quick response vehicles to ensure readiness, inspects vehicles’ mechanical condition/readiness, emergency medical equipment, medications, and supplies.
  • Maintains station, vehicle, and equipment cleanliness at all times; completes needed and assigned station duties and/or chores without direct supervision.
  • Maintains scheduled and access-controlled medications in accordance with departmental policy, medical director’s protocol, state regulation, and federal law as applicable.
  • Monitors departmental communications methods, including radio, e-mail, intranet, and computer-aided dispatch systems throughout shift.
  • Participates in ongoing communication with teammates and command staff regularly.
  • Performs thorough assessments of all patients encountered; assesses the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures per protocol, and establishes the need for treatment, transport, and additional assistance.
  • Administers medical care within the scope of practice and Grand County EMS protocols in the out-of-hospital environment.
  • Observes and maintains knowledge of departmental protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Accurately obtains and relays patient demographic information, vital statistics, and circumstances of EMS encounter.
  • Promptly, efficiently, and accurately completes reporting requirements in accordance with departmental policy and state regulation.
  • Effectively communicates with coworkers, supervisors, subordinates, medical facility staff, physicians, patients, family members, and bystanders.
  • Participates in orientation, development, and mentoring of new employees.
  • Actively participates and supports community education, public relations, and outreach programs in the community.
  • Attends all mandatory training and department meetings, including quarterly staff meetings.
  • Assists in covering special events as periodically required by the GCEMS command staff.
  • Actively participates in the Medical Director’s Quality Management program; understands and demonstrates the importance of quality assurance and improvement as a healthcare professional.
  • Operates all Grand County EMS vehicles, equipment, and devices safely and responsibly at all times.
  • Observes safety practices and utilizes required and/or necessary safety equipment in accordance with departmental, county, and industry standards or requirements.
  • Adheres to strict patient confidentiality guidelines, rules, regulations, and laws.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
