ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking several hard working and meticulous Fencing Technicians to join our installation crew. This role covers residential and commercial fencing, with the focus on buck and rail, livestock, vinyl, barbed wire, and custom design fencing. The ideal candidate has experience with timber construction and a passion for craftsmanship. The fencing technician will be responsible for the end-to-end process of assembling, positioning, and repairing various types of fencing to secure or divide property under the direction of the Fencing Foreman. This role is highly physical, often requiring work in various weather conditions and terrain in a mountain environment.Â
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:Â High school diploma or equivalent.
- Skills:Â Strong basic math skills and the ability to read blueprints/plans.
- Physical Requirements:Â High physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects.
- License: Valid Driver’s License required (CDL is a major plus).
- Experience:Â Previous fencing, construction, or apprenticeship experience preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate. Experience using a chainsaw.Â
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Carpentry & Cutting: Proficiency in making angled cuts (often using a jig for consistency) and notching poles for a secure fit.
- Material Handling: Experience working with raw or treated timber, such as pine beetle-mitigated logs.
- Fastening: Skilled in using heavy-duty deck screws, nails, or nail guns to join large-diameter poles.
- Leveling: Ability to use laser levels or string lines to maintain a consistent height over highly uneven terrain.Â
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:Â
- Terrain-Based Installation: Layout fence lines across rocky, frozen, or steep terrain where post-holes are not feasible.
- Structural Integrity: Install and fasten horizontal rails (3-7 poles) and diagonal bracing to prevent racking or leaning over time.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate chainsaws, miter saws, and high-torque drills for timber notching and fastening.
- Site Safety: Follow OSHA and company safety protocols, especially when handling heavy materials and working in remote locations.Â
- Site Preparation: Measure and mark installation areas, ensuring no underground utility lines (electric, water) are in the designated path.
- Installation: Dig postholes using hand tools or power-driven augers, set posts in upright positions, and secure them with concrete or tamped soil.
- Assembly: Attach rails, panels, pickets, or tension wires to form the fencing frame.
- Specialty Work: Assemble and install gates, apply finishes (paint, stain), and potentially install electric fencing or security measures.
- Maintenance & Repair: Inspect existing fences for vulnerabilities and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
- Equipment Operation: Use hand and power tools (drills, saws, hammers) and occasionally operate heavier machinery like forklifts or skid steers.Â
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Heavy Lifting: Must be able to move and position heavy timber poles, often weighing 50–100 lbs.
- Outdoor Endurance: Work involves standing, bending, and manual labor in diverse weather conditions and remote locations.Â
